Gomatha also known as
Kamadhenu, Surabhi, Shaval, Aditi in Sanskrit, is a divine bovine-goddess
described in Hindu Religion as the mother of all cows. She is a
miraculous "cow of plenty" who provides her owner whatever he desires
and is often portrayed as the mother of other cattle as well as the
eleven Rudras. In iconography, she is generally depicted as a white cow
with a female head and breasts or as a white cow containing various deities
within her body.
Hindus worship Cow as the
most sacred animal and also believe that cow to be not created
by Brahma Deva, the creator but whereas appeared from a Yagna
Kundam when Devatas did a Yagnam.
The milk of a cow is
believed to promote sattvic (purifying) qualities. The ghee (clarified butter)
from the milk of a cow is used in ceremonies and in preparing religious food.
Cow dung is used as fertilizer, as a fuel and as a disinfectant in homes.
Modern science acknowledges that the smoke from cow dung is a powerful
disinfectant and an anti-pollutant. Its urine is also used for religious
rituals as well as medicinal purposes. The supreme purified material,
panchagavya, was a mixture of five products of the cow, namely milk, curd,
ghee, urine and dung. The most common word for cow is GHO, cognate with the
English COW and Latin BOS, the Sanskrit word for cattle is PASU.
Cows are the foremost of
all living things. Themselves sacred, they are the best of cleansers and
sanctifiers. People should cherish cows for obtaining prosperity and even
peace. Cows are said to represent the highest energy both in this world and the
world that is above. There is nothing that is more sacred or sanctifying than
cows.
Cow is the most sacred
animal and its life itself is totally dedicated to mankind in many ways. According
to the Holy Scriptures, thirty three crore (crore is koti that is categories) Devathas
reside in the Cow. That is also a reason why Cow is worshiped as the holy
deity, Gomatha.
33 Divine Energies
Cow is the form of all the Devathas. Cow is the replica
of Mother Earth. Every part of the cow is divine. Worshipping cow bestows
all virtues and eradicates all sins.
